Yeah, cool idea, we could drown all of the BF3 newbies in the pool. Besides... it may be too small! 
Seriously, imho EA tries to draw the attention from those, who still play BC2, to BF3 by this method. To stay at the picture: They try to empty the pool of BC2-players. With the closing of many game titles at the end of may it would fit into a general strategy. Assuming they will have one...
So maybe we will be able to use it to our own advantage, as soon as VU will arive... soonTM
